~ 7 MAY ~
Round 8
Firstly, a heartfelt thank you to the MCAFL community for your messages after dad’s passing. I would also would like to reiterate my condolences to the Rice family for their loss during the week.
A Short review as anyone following the results over the weekend would have known most of the results were decided before Sunday.
Despite having the 5th best attack, the FattRatts season is being decimated by poor timing with their opponents averaging 124 when playing Jeremadra. The Mudskippers ensured that pattern continued with a convincing 136-111 victory.
Shark Bay and Macattack was the only close game. The Mustangs super stars Darcy Wilmot and Shaun Mannagh…. ensured their losing streak ended, but Clarry couldn’t quite get it done for the win. Game ended 120-120.
Mossimo’s dependence on Carlton players has stung them again – they produced the Meerkats three lowest scores in their 112-120 defeat to Capper County.
The match of the round was a bust after Friday night. Hoddle Street fans were Berry happy after the Knights registered their highest score of the year and Tullamarine their lowest. It ended 128-97.
A Xerri 164 made a big difference as the Blues won their third straight beating West Fisher 125-111. One wonders, based on his SC scores, why this man isn’t lauded as the best player in the history of the AFL.
Round 7
Editor’s note. Last week I flagged the Mustangs third loss in-a-row was the first time since 2015. This was inaccurate (their losses were Round 3, 5 and 6) so their negative three-peat record stayed intact… Until this weekend.
WEST FISHER v JEREMADRA The Wildcats returned to form to win 129-118. Not surprising really, as this year everyone (since Round 2) has scored 120+ when playing the FattRatts. It was West Fisher’s biggest score of the season and ends a two-game losing streak. Jeremadra will hope their luck can change and “I’m precious” Heeney will return as they face the league-leading Menindee next week.
HODDLE STREET v SYN CITY The Knights have won their last two games with scores of 113 and 112. They would have to improve dramatically to get past the high scoring Blues who were boosted by the return of Xerri. Hoddle Street didn’t improve and Syn City put up their biggest total for the season despite having three players register scores in the 50s. It ended 137-109. Despite them sitting in fifth place, MCAFLBet has the Queenslanders as premiership favourites.
CAPPER COUNTY v TULLAMARINE Heading into this game, the Clangers had lost two straight and the Injectors had won two straight. Thanks mainly to the County’s purple-wonder-twins (Jackson and Bolton), those streaks have ended. Not pretty, but the Clangers got up 107-101.
MACATTACK v MOSSIMO Google advises the name Hewett means popularity. It also has a Germanic derivative meaning heart or spirit. Quite appropriate as it reflects Mossimo’s form since Hewett hasn’t taken the field. Amazingly, the Mustangs had a ‘hold my beer’ moment and had eight players average 68 between them. The Meerkats got home in a shocker 104-102. This was the Mustangs third loss in a row - the first time since 2015!
MENINDEEv SHARK BAY The highly anticipated top-of-table clash, like most AFL games this weekend, was a one-sided bust. Both teams could have done better at their selection meetings, but the Mudskippers did enough to win 117-111.
